Visit NC for Fun-Filled Day Trips With Your Pooch! (image)

There are a wide variety of places to visit and fun things to do with your dog in just about every state.  However, we think North Carolina takes the cake (or should we say biscuit) when it comes to awesome pet friendly experiences!  From the western mountain region all the way to the crystal coast, there are many unique, exciting, relaxing, and fun-filled day trips where you and your pooch can experience some of these wonderful activities.  And, while there are plenty of places that we could feature and highlight, the following cities are super dog friendly and offer tons of opportunities for you to hang out with your four-legged sidekick for a day (or two) of fun!

Charlotte, NC

You and your pup will find plenty of places to discover and things to do in North Carolina’s “Queen City”.  Charlotte has dog parks, hiking trails, lakes for kayaking and paddle boarding, restaurants with outdoor seating, and so much more.  There’s a spacious (and very pet friendly) antique mall for both of you to peruse, with snacks, water bowls, and an outdoor area just for dogs.  You can even stop by Charlotte’s famous Dog Bar to sip on a cool drink with your pup, who is allowed to be unleashed as long as he’s under your voice command.  Besides local hangouts for shopping and drinks, great dog friendly dining options are also easily found in Charlotte, including Mellow Mushroom and their fabulous pizza! With all of its southern hospitality and pet friendly activities, it’s no wonder pet parents like to bring their furkids to Charlotte for a quick getaway!

New Bern, NC

No need to leave your furry family member at home when heading to New Bern.  In fact, you’ll want to make a point to include your pooch when traveling here, to experience all the pet friendliness of the area.  Head out to a local park for a hike along one of the trails, or enjoy a picnic and scenic walk around the long and winding Neuse River.  There are also many local shops to visit, with some, like the Black Cat Shoppe, allowing your leashed dog to come inside with you. Plenty of restaurants in the area offer outdoor seating, and some provide beautiful waterfront views for you and your furkids’ dining pleasure.  One such place is Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant, which features local ingredients, an award-winning chef, friendly service, and outdoor tables to take in the beautiful views of the Neuse River. With so many fun places to explore with your pup in New Bern, one day may not be enough!

Jacksonville, NC

You'll enjoy the patriotic feel of Jacksonville and your pooch will enjoy the pet friendly activities that this city has to offer.  You both can explore dog friendly trails, local greenways, and outdoor cafes.  Plus, you and your pup can kayak, canoe, or paddle board on Jacksonville’s New River!  If shopping is more up your alley, then head to the west side of the city or popular downtown area for some strolling and window shopping. Then, after a fun-filled day of outdoor activities, pop on over to one of the many dog friendly restaurants in the area.  There’s even a local bakery that caters to pups, with delicious homemade treats that are sure to please your four-legged sidekick.  And, if one day just isn't enough to take in all that Jacksonville has to offer, then plan a stay at one of the pet friendly accommodations in the area - many with low or no pet fees!
