Roses, chocolate and teddy bears are popular Valentine's Day gifts to show appreciation for our loved ones. We know we can't give these gifts to our canine companions, but we don't want to leave them out.
The American Kennel Club shares tips on how to show your four-legged friend some love this Valentine's Day.
• Take a long walk. Quality bonding time is a great way to spend Valentine's Day with your dog. Take your dog for a long walk in your neighborhood, or take him to a dog park to run around. You can get some exercise with your dog while spending some time together.
• Get your pup a new toy. You can show your dog some love by getting him a new toy. Try an interactive toy; maybe something that you can fill with his favorite treats. These toys keep your dog busy while they work to get their reward inside. You can also try a rubber or nylon chew toy to help scrape away buildup on your dog's teeth.
• Teach your dog a new trick. Another way to bond this Valentine's Day is to teach your dog a new trick. You can teach him tricks such as fetch, roll over or give paw. Be sure to reward him as he makes progress with the trick. This can be an excellent way to bond with your dog and make him feel special.
• Doggie date night. A relaxing evening at home may be the ideal way to show your love for your dog. You can cuddle up together on the couch and watch a movie. Giving your furry friend his favorite treat and some extra attention is a great way to show your appreciation this Valentine's Day.
